Sociology

Sociology is the study of society and human behaviour. Sociologists create factual knowledge about how and why people behave in particular ways. Facts are true, regardless of whether we believe them to be true; opinions, however, may or may not be true. The crucial difference is that factual knowledge is supported by evidence that has been systematically created and tested. Sociologists are not interested in how facts are:

created: how to produce knowledge that is superior to simple opinion

linked: how one fact connects to another to create an overall picture of  'social reality'.

This involves developing theories that explain how and why things are connected. We can only explain facts by constructing possible explanations (theories) and then testing those theories against known facts.
